Between the ages of 16 to 25, you may experience a severe pain whenever you try to eat, speak or do anything that includes the movement of your tooth. This may be a symptom that your wisdom tooth is about to join your teeth set. You feel the pain during the process which can be termed as wisdom tooth pain. Don’t panic, there are many home remedies for wisdom tooth pain.
It may also happen late in some people, in your late 20’s or 30’s. There are four wisdom teeth and they are also called third morals. These wisdom teeth are the last teeth that grow and they may not have enough room. Hence, they get stuck between the teeth and cause pain in the gums and jaw.
Luckily, sometimes you do not suffer from this pain if you have a big mouth, but most of the people are victimized by wisdom tooth pain with symptoms like jaw pain, headache, pain in adjacent teeth, bad breath, difficulty in breathing, difficulty in biting accompanied by pain, swelling, redness and tenderness in gums. You may also experience irritation in the gums especially at night when you’re asleep.
Home Remedies for Wisdom Tooth Pain
Clove works as a very effective home remedy for wisdom tooth pain. It not only gives you relief from the pain but also prevents infection in your teeth, all credits to its analgesic, anesthetic, antiseptic and anti – bacterial properties. Take few drops of clove in your hand or in a cotton and apply gently in the affected area for 2 – 3 minutes. That will get you instant relief from your wisdom tooth pain.
2. Use Onion
Using onion is also very good idea to get rid of wisdom tooth pain. It helps you to get relief of swelling, inflammation and pain in your throat. Chewing onion can get you relief, if not simply put it in the affected area. Choosing the onion is also an important part; choose as pungent onion as you can for best results.
3. Garlic for wisdom tooth pain
Garlic is the most common and one of the best home remedies for wisdom tooth pain. The anti – oxidant and anti – inflammatory properties in garlic helps you to get rid of the pain and help reduce swelling and inflammation. Apply garlic paste or simply crushed garlic in the swollen area.
4. Using necessary oils for wisdom tooth pain
Various kinds of oils such as olive oil, tea tree oil, lavender oil, oregano oil and cinnamon oil helps you to get rid of wisdom tooth pain. The anti – viral, anti – fungal, anti – inflammatory, antiseptic and anesthetic property of tea tree oil helps you in relieving the pain, swelling and inflammation. Lavender oil also has anti – inflammatory and antiseptic property which has the same effect like of tea tree oil. Oregano oil holds antiseptic properties whereas olive oil works as a pain reliever.
Apply all these oils in the affected area with your finger or a cotton pad. Using warm oil does nothing wrong but make sure you use less amount of oil.
Salt naturally helps in reducing inflammation in your gums and teeth. Salt water solution is also one of the most effective home remedies for wisdom tooth pain. You can apply salt and pepper in the affected area or make a combination of salt with other home remedies like in garlic, guava leaves, etc.
6. Use peppermint
Peppermint is old but effective home remedy for wisdom tooth pain. The antiseptic property in peppermint helps you to get rid of pain as well as bacteria that cause infection in your teeth. Just apply peppermint in the triggered area or add peppermint in warm water and hold it in your mouth for 20-30 seconds and spit. Repeat this for 3 – 4 times.
7. Give it a cold compress
Giving a cold compress or simply applying ice pack in the affected area is very helpful to reduce swelling and inflammation in gums. Cold compress also helps you to get you instant relief from the pain.
8. Using guava leaves
Guava leaves are natural medicines for tooth pain, having anti – bacterial, disinfection properties and works as a great pain killer for your tooth pain. Plus, they also help in relieving symptoms like bad breathing, bleeding gums, etc. Chewing guava leaves is one great way to get relief. If you want to choose another way, get some guava leaves and boil it in water for 4 – 5 minutes. Put this solution in your mouth when it gets lukewarm and repeat for 4 – 5 times.
